Resources
- Blank paper
- Scissors
- Tape
- Ribbon
- Markers or color pencils
- Hole puncher (optional)
- Activity Instruction Sheet (optional) click to download
Instructions
- Think of a friend or a person that you would like to give a medal to. Think about: Why are you friends with this person? What is special about them as a friend?
- Pick up a blank piece of paper of the table and draw and color a “medal” or “award” to recognize your friend. Write your friend’s name on it, cut it out, and tie a ribbon so you can hang the medal around your friend.
- It’s time for the “Award Ceremony”! Find your friend (or bring your medal home until you see him/her the next time) and hang the medal around your friend’s neck. Tell your friend why you made them a medal.
- Ask an adult for permission to take a photo of you and your friend with the blue ribbon. If you are allowed to, post it on social media with tags: #EQPOPUP #WorldChildrensDay to join the World Children’s Day celebration.
Discussion
- What is a friend? How do you make friends?
- What should a good friend be like?
- How did it feel to make a friendship-medal?
- How did it feel to say out loud what you like about your friend?
